The Government of the Canary Islands Reaffirms Its Support for the Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra 2026

The organisation of the Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra continues to make solid progress towards its second edition. This morning, representatives of the event met with the Deputy Minister for Physical Activity and Sport of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mr Ángel Sabroso, who confirmed that the race will once again receive the institutional support of the Government of the Canary Islands in 2026.

This support represents a major boost for the continued development of a project that, since its first edition, has stood out for its commitment to inclusion, safety, Canarian identity and the international growth of the Backyard Ultra format.

The 2026 edition, which will take place on 22 May, will take another step forward by introducing the unlimited-hours format, in accordance with the official international rules. The race will only end when El Último Puntal or La Última Puntal remains standing, further establishing Gran Canaria within the global circuit of this type of event.

“We keep working because every ring of the bell reminds us who we are and where we are heading,” the organisers said. “Having the support of the Government of the Canary Islands once again is essential for us to keep growing and to deliver an edition that promises to be historic.”

The Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra invites both those who experienced the excitement in 2025 and those who want to discover it for the first time in 2026.
