Did You Know…?

The Individual Backyard Ultra World Championship, which will take place on 18 October 2025, will be a “last runner standing” race held at the legendary Big Dog’s Backyard in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA.

Who qualifies?

• The 50 national champions with the highest number of loops in their respective countries, achieved at the World Team Championship held in October 2024, earned direct qualification for the Individual World Championship.
• They are joined by 26 additional runners selected from the At-Large waiting list, based on the best results recorded during the qualifying period from 16 August 2023 to 15 August 2025.

The event has a maximum capacity of 76 participants.

Who will be there?

The qualifying period ended on 15 August 2025. The runners who earned direct qualification through the World Team Championship, as well as through qualifying events held around the world, have already been determined.

All qualified runners must confirm their participation. If they do not, they will be replaced by athletes from the waiting list. Therefore, although the 76 places are practically decided, the official roster has not yet been published.

Among the 76 participants, Spain will be represented by José Manuel Ruiz Verdugo, who completed 62 loops at last October’s championship in Méntrida, and Oriol Antolí, who completed an incredible 102 loops at the Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra, held on 25 June in Runnymede, south-east Queensland, Australia.
