Official Presentation of the Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra 2025!

Canaria Backyard Ultra 2025 at the El Sequero Sports Hall in Ingenio.

The event will be attended by:

• Poli Suárez, Regional Minister for Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.
• Ángel Sabroso, Deputy Minister for Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.
• Vanesa Martín, Mayor of Ingenio.
• Members of the Municipal Council, as well as representatives of partner companies and institutions.

👉 This will be a very special occasion, as it will also mark the official inauguration of the new sports flooring at the El Sequero Sports Hall, the venue that will become the heart of the Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra 2025.

Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra 2025

The Gran Canaria Backyard Ultra will take place on 10 and 11 October 2025 in the municipality of Ingenio. It will be the first time this international endurance format has been held in the Canary Islands.

The format is simple:

• Every hour, participants must complete a 6.7 km loop.
• Anyone who fails to start the next loop on time is eliminated.
• The race continues until only one person remains: El Último Puntal or La Última Puntal.

This title is inspired by Canarian Wrestling, where the Puntal represents strength, nobility and respect for one’s opponent.

Much More Than a Race

With a maximum of 28 loops (28 hours), this first edition breaks away from the traditional approach to competition. Here, each participant decides how far they want to go, either individually or as part of a team, highlighting values such as personal achievement, solidarity and camaraderie.

Now established in more than 60 countries, the Backyard Ultra format will put Ingenio on the international ultrarunning map and turn the municipality into a true celebration of endurance and sport.
